Ruthian Baseball Academy

We’ve Got Game!

Ruthian Baseball Academy is your one-stop shop for everything baseball in Ottawa. The only year-round batting and pitching facility between Montreal and Toronto, we train elite-level athletes from across Quebec and Ontario, and we have the best indoor batting cages and baseball programs for anyone in the Ottawa-Gatineau region with a love of the game. At Ruthian, we’ve helped athletes with everything from learning the baseball basics to earning a spot on a competitive team at various levels.

Our Story

Ruthian Baseball Academy (formerly Youth Elite Sports) was founded in 2011 by Brian Beehler. After several years of sell-out programs and alumni moving on to elite levels teams and colleges, in 2015 it was time to build Dingerz, a 23,500 sq. ft. facility unrivalled between Montreal and Toronto and to expand into a year-round, elite indoor baseball academy. With some of the best instructors in the region, Brian’s original goal remains the same: to cultivate the highest level of athletic training without sacrificing core principles of sportsmanship like honesty, courage, dependability and unselfishness.

Top-Rated Instructors and Coaches

All our coaches and instructors are the best in their field and are driven by a love of the game. All coaches are hand-picked to ensure the highest quality of instruction for all athletes from beginners to the highest ability level. Each staff member is committed to fostering a safe and enjoyable experience while also maintaining a focus on future goals, intense development and the importance of strong values both on and off the diamond.

The most important position on the field is the catcher. They are the quarterback of a baseball team. Yet, it is the least taught position on the field. Majority of coaches tell a catcher to catch bullpens then be done. How can you expect a catcher to get better if they’re not working on their craft? Catching is like everything else, it needs time and hard work to get better.

Focus will be becoming a well rounded player at the catching position. On top of training focus points below, the youth catchers will learn how to continue their development and skills with at home and pregame drills. High School level catchers will learn about strength training to become stronger and faster.

Some points the training focuses on:

  • Footwork
  • Blocking
  • Framing
  • Strength and Conditioning
  • Agility & Quickness
  • Mental Preparation
  • Situations: learning where to be at all times.
  • Throwing technique
  • Arm Strength
